Colour My Heart Game

Search the Depths of the Earth in Colour My Heart

Ah, being in love. Life doesn't get any better than when you've found the one you want to spend your life with. When you're with that person, the sun seems to shine brighter, the rain turns from being gloomy to romantic and even the worst days can turn into the best in a minute. When you've got it bad, it's hard not to be inspired by the object of your affection and sometimes, this can turn even simple men into poets. Speaking of poets, Colour My Heart has a beautiful sentiment behind it. Rather than being your average adventure game, the game is more of an experience. There is no one way to get to its end, although those who spend the time to explore its world may find a few nice surprises along the way.

An Artistic Expression

Colour My Heart can be played by anyone. The controls are pretty basic. The arrow keys are used to move around the world and interactive objects can be triggered by clicking in them with your mouse. Though there are a number of hidden surprises, interactive with the game world is quite intuitive. If you're a hardcore gamer, you might not get Colour My Heart immediately. There are no challenges, leaderboards or multiplayer matches here. You do get to explore and discover tidbits, depending on how much time you're willing to spend on the title. Go fast and you will be able to finish the game in under a minute. Go slow and you will be able to take in surreal sights and solve simple puzzles that could enrich the experience.

Regardless what you decide to do, the game is short and can be finished within ten minutes. Interacting with the world entails spotting minute things such as switches or portals and using those to propel your character forward. The goal is to get him from point A to point B, basically from the start of the game to his sweetheart.

Enter a Monochrome World

Even as you start the game, it's easy to tell that this is interactive art. The sketches may not be up to par with your average AAA title but the delivery itself is excellent. For one thing, the level of detail is phenomenal. From boarded up windows to vandalized signs, there are many objects that will draw your eyes if you don't rush to the ending. On top of that, there is the wonderful background music to listen to. As you explore the monochrome world, you get to enjoy the game's soft, relaxing beats. What makes it so great is that the mood it induces is truly fitting for the message of the game.

The surreal approach to the world also complements the journey that the character (and, of course, you) are undertaking. Colour My Heart is geared towards personal discovery. To some it may simply be a beautiful, interactive art form and that's alright. Others may find themselves touched by the subtle details that lead to the game's conclusion. At the very least, it is a unique title that provides a nice lull in between your hardcore games.

Enjoy the Experience

So, is Colour My Heart for you? That depends entirely on what you're hoping to get from the experience. There isn't really much here for those looking for challenges. For that, you'll need to look at some other offerings. As we've mentioned above, this is more like interactive art which may offer a profound experience for some or, at the very least, an interesting one for others. As the title suggests, you will be exploring a monochrome world as you search high and low to find your sweetheart. Depending on how you look at it, it can be a tremendously rewarding experience. Of course, there is always room for improvement. The good thing is that Silver Stitch, the game's developer, is open to suggestions. In fact, several updates have already been released in order to improve elements such as jumping height and minimize lag. Overall, we can say that it doesn't matter whether you're willing to reserve two or ten minutes of your time this game is time well spent. It is, indeed, a rare one that builds upon a nice sentiment and turns it into enjoyable art.
